Stories of hope
We know the value of hope to families facing their toughest challenge and helping to provide hope to families is a central part of Solving Kids' Cancer UK's mission.
Among the incredibly sad stories, there are also stories of hope, which we are pleased to be able to share and celebrate with you. The stories featured here, shared with permission, are of children and young people who have been diagnosed with neuroblastoma, have completed treatment and are now in remission and doing the things they enjoy most in life.
Some of the children and young people below would have fundraised with Solving Kids' Cancer UK, for access to treatment not available through the NHS and many will have gone on to access and complete treatment overseas. Some families have chosen to keep their child's dedicated fund open for donations. Up until the point at which a child reaches five years post the end of treatment, all funds raised are held for the child for access to treatment and pastoral needs. After this point, funds raised in a child's name are used to support all children and families affected by neuroblastoma through Solving Kids' Cancer UK's activities. Meet...
Jake rang the bell at Great Ormond Street Hospital in 2019! Since then, his family say he's been living his best boring and uneventful life (medically speaking!). Jake is now nine years old, loves playing the drums, going to Cubs and following Man United!
Fun-loving Daya is now in remission after raising funds for life-saving surgery in New York in 2018.
Breya is nine years old, healthy and full of life. She has been in remission since she finished treatment in May 2018. She loves dancing and singing and is totally independent and unique.
Ellen is happy and easy-going. She is always trying to make people laugh and is the clown of the house. At two years old Ellen was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, she’s now nine and remains in remission.
Reuben is a happy 10-year-old who enjoys playing Fortnite, football and riding his bike. He is the oldest child to parents, Kulwant and Jess, and loves spending time with little brother, Hari and baby sister, Jia.
Teddy is seven years old, in remission and thriving! He started school in September 2021 and loves reading, spending time on the beach, eating ice cream and playing with little brother, Rafferty. His oncologist described him as doing ‘extremely well’.
Isla is a thriving eight-year-old. Confident, enthusiastic, vivacious and brings so much joy to everyone she meets. Isla loves singing, dancing, swimming and roller skating. Most of all she enjoys being at school with all her friends – exactly where she should be!
Phoebe was diagnosed with neuroblastoma when she was nine months old. She is funny, inspiring, cheeky, determined and very cute. She adores her big sister Amelie, who loves her to bits.
Lottie is now 10 years old. She is resilient, strong-willed, determined and has a brilliant sense of humour. Lottie loves horse riding, playing in the garden and karate!
Affectionately known as the ‘Rainbow Warrior’, Mia is now 12 years old. She is a strong-willed determined young lady who loves horses and competing in pony shows.
Zakky is 11 years old and doing well after reaching remission in 2016. He continues to deal with the after-effects of treatments, but deals with them like an absolute champ! His mum has stayed connected to the charity through our Parent Involvement Forum.
Farid has been in remission since February 2017!
Oliver is now 15 years old. He likes gaming and hanging out with his friends.
Kelli Anne loves figure skating and aspires to be a Paediatric Oncologist. In 2022, she reached 10 years cancer-free!
Ruby is a happy 11-year-old girl, keen to catch up with her learning and bossy to her big brother. She was five years cancer-free in November 2022! While she has the odd hiccup, she’s smashing life!
Sam received the amazing news that he had no evidence of neuroblastoma in 2014. Since then, he has been living life to the max!
Charlie completed all of his treatment in April 2015 and is now 12 years old. He remains clear of disease and his family are very proud!
Lilly is now 14 years old and has been in remission for over 10 years!
